WHAT IS SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION?

In particular, submitting to search engines is only part of the challenge of getting good search engine positioning. It's also important to prepare a web site through "search engine optimization."
Search engine optimization (also known as SEO) is the act of making a website come up higher in the search results of major search engines. It ensures that your web pages are accessible to search engines and focused in ways that help improve the chances they will be found.
Everyone wants those good listings. Unfortunately, your website is likely far away from expected traffic if no proper optimization for search engines just because the optimization of your website can ensure that your website has all of the necessary ranking criteria to appeal to search engines needs.
That just means that if you do not know how search engines work you may get poor ranking in search engines or may not be listed at all.

HOW SEARCH ENGINES WORK?
Search engines use spiders (a kind of search program) to visit your site. Crawler-based search engines automatically visit web pages to compile their listings. This means that, unlike directories, by taking care in how you build your pages, you might rank well in crawler-produced results. Search engines decide your website ranking by your website relevancy --keywords relevancy. Make it search engines friendly, just means give your website more relevancy focused on your most important keywords.
By what way Search Engines spiders decide your relevancy? Well, it's simple, they could only read pure text, but not beautiful frames, images, flashes etc, and decide your ranking by what they read based on your provided keywords from your title, description and your text in homepage. If you give a pile of keywords but no mentioned within those items, they would think it's a trick and give your website a poor ranking or even kick you out.

HOW TO INTELLIGENTLY OPTMIZE YOUR WEB SITE?

The intelligent optimization solutions Include increasing of your page density, increasing of your link popularity, manipulation of body text, inclusion of alt tags, inclusion of text navigation lines, layout changes (Layers, CSS versus Tables, etc.), etc.
Follow these general steps as a rule of thumb in optimizing your web site:

Including: repeat your keyword phrase in your Meta title, Meta Description tags (the MOST important thing you can do!). Search engines will add additional weight to keywords found in the title tag, heading tags, and the first 200 or so words of the page. (All words are generally indexed, but those near the top will carry the most "weight"). If you include a graphic, repeat the keyword in the ALT IMG tag. Some search engines include words they find in the ALT IMG tag as part of their relevancy scoring system.
Repeat your keywords in the first paragraph of the page, trying to use it naturally in at least two or three sentences near the top. It is also the good choice to include your keywords within one or more hyper links. To repeat your targeted keywords with <H1> on the TOP position of your homepage is also a good idea.

As stated very clearly at a recent search engine conference, “Content is king.” That's the one point on which all search engines (and directories) agree. Create REAL content on the pages that talks about the great things about your site provides with.

Increasing the number of quality links to your web site can boost your search engine ranking and increasing traffic to your web site. Link Popularity has become a factor that many search engines use when ranking web pages within their indexes. Unlike search engine rankings and paid advertising (banners, per click, etc.), traffic generated by link campaigns can usually be counted on for years to come, with no recurring cost.

It is best to use a multiple-database submission service to save you the time of contacting each search service separately.

Normally, you should avoid common site ranking killers like: having your site built in Frames, the potential danger in scripting (i.e. Java Script), how to overcome dynamic page barriers, link Popularity Farms, spam avoidance and other ways to prevent your site from getting booted from Search Engines.
